Shinji Hirano was born in Japan in 1964. He is a researcher in the field of cell biology. He developed his interests in Indian culture and history through Indian cinemas and travelling. His major interest is early local punch-marked coins in ancient India. He joined the Ahata Team in 1998. He is a member of the Numismatic Society of India, Oriental Numismatic Society, and Royal Numismatic Society
